Abstract

This research article aims to carry out an in-depth analysis of the impeachment process in the United States. This figure takes on special relevance for the political and constitutional system of that country. It is a trial that can result in the dismissal of the President of the United States, but at the same time it is conceived as an authentic "political trial", with its constitutional regulation. We will carry out the analysis and an approach to the evolution of impeachment since its creation as such to its drift towards a trial of a rather partisan nature. To do so, the structure followed in this article is the following: first its constitutional regulation will be addressed, then the specific cases of impeachment, how it has gone from a political trial to a (possible) partisan trial and, finally, a series of conclusions will be reached. To do so, we will use the traditional methodology of analysis of the most relevant bibliographic sources on the subject, to carry out an in-depth examination of one of the most relevant political and constitutional figures in the United States. Finally, the main conclusion that has been drawn is the use of impeachment in a partisan manner and therefore, as a controversial process at present.
