Putin’s Russian Nationalism. A Soviet Legacy?

Keywords: Nationalism, Totalitarianism, Russia, Ukrainian war, Vladimir Putin, Soviet Union

Abstract

The present article starts from the discourses justifying the Ukrainian war and follows them in retrospect to look for the origin of much of Vladimir Putin's new imperial project. The main questions I try to answer are: how much is Soviet in this new nationalism? Does imperial expansionism aim to return to the USSR or to rebuild the Empire of the Czars? What is new and original in this ideological construction? In the context of the current dictatorship, can we speak of a new totalitarianism?
