Public Policies and Human Rights of older persons in Mediterranean Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. Economic security, health and long-term care

Abstract

Population ageing is characterised as a global phenomenon and not exclusive to the more developed countries. The feminisation of ageing is also global and has health, economic security, and long-term care implications. These three areas, identified by the United Nations as priorities concerning older persons (together with favourable environments), have been studied from different disciplines and approaches. In this article, they will be analised from a public policy and human rights perspective, paying particular attention to the intersection between human rights and public policy approaches. The aim of this text is twofold: on the one hand, to conduct a literature review to establish the state of the art in the public policy approach, in the human rights approach, as well as in the intersection of public policy and human rights in the areas of economic security, health and long-term care of older persons. The systematic review will be carried out in the Scopus database, using publications in English and Spanish, with no delimitation of time or type of publications. Secondly, to introduce the contributions made by the articles that form part of this monographic issue.
