Plebeian condition and plebeian democracy on the horizon of the crisis of neoliberal oligarchy
Abstract
Since the great economic "crash" of 2008, an intense political and academic debate has been generated around the crisis situation of neoliberalism and its political regime. This situation is presented at the same time as an opportunity to imagine alternative ways of organizing life in common. Plebeian democracy has been one of the concepts that have emerged from political philosophy to think alternative political forms to the current order. This article seeks to insert itself in the middle of this debate, giving an account of the oligarchic nature of neoliberal democracy, but also contributing to characterize the commoner subject through what I call a commoner condition, which emerges from the shared experience of a precarious life : a life in common on the margins of the economic order, implying economic exclusion, but also political subordination.
