The political art of Francisco Bassim, representative of the cynicism of Ancient Greece in contemporany Venezuela
Abstract
This article intends to show that the art of Francisco Bassim is political, taking into consideration that it can adhere to the mimetic / representative regime established by Rancière and to militant or compromised art according to what Nelly Richard has shown. Besides, represents one of the most interesting characteristics of the concept of Cynicism from ancient Greece: to speak and present the truth without mercy, to the point of becoming uncomfortable; contrary to the meaning of cynicism today that our culture interprets as the ability to lie without any shame and to defend reprehensible acts. I perceive Bassim as representative of the concept of Cynicism from Ancient Greece but in contemporary times, because he is a man who considers himself an anarchist who, with sarcasm and self-confidence, honestly shows through his art what he assumes as an uncomfortable truth: the actions of Venezuelan politicians whom he blames for the political, economic and moral crisis that has deepened in Venezuela over the past five years.
