Programmatic offer on Economic Policy in ten western economies (Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, USA, Spain, France, Mexico, United Kingdom and Sweden) 1980-2015.
Abstract
This article defends the thesis that, regardless of the ideological position of the political parties, these must apply the measures of the neoliberal model due to the dependence that the economies have on the International financial Institutions, IFIs. To validate the thesis, this article measures the adaptation of the programmatic offer of ten economies to the neoliberal model. The database of the Manifesto Research on Political Representation (MARPOR) is used to construct a Neoliberal Public Policy Matrix and a Neoliberal Policy Index (NEPOIN), which is compared with the RILE index. The analysis is done for the 19 political parties that have governed these economies during the 36 years of study. It is concluded that the vast majority of parties move in a fluctuating way both in the right-left spectrum and with respect to neoliberal politics. The findings of this investigation question the self-positioning of the parties and affirm that neoliberalism was applied by both right-wing parties and left-wing parties.
