Egypt and the regional stage: adjustements and continuity (211-2016)
Abstract
After the fall of President Hosni Mubarak in February 2011, an internal process of political transformation began that also entailed a recomposition of Egypt’s regional strategic alliances. The analysis of these transformations makes it possible to evaluate the scope of the changes —or the continuity— in the country’s foreign policy and the evolution of the adaptation policies implemented by Egyptian diplomacy in the regional arena between 2011 and 2016. This article analyses case studies of relations between post-Mubarak Egypt and the Gulf countries, most specifically Saudi Arabia, as well as other countries in the region like Libya, Syria and Palestine, in addition to examining ties with the United States.
