On Fear of Crime and Other Fears: The Victim-Citizen and the Mainstreaming Insecurity

Abstract

In the current societies the feeling of insecurity and fear urden to international level and do of the victimization a multidimensional phenomenon, more when it floods the different areas of the social development and installs like a typology of citizen. Using national surveys, descriptively analyze (in) human security in Chile, the associated crime and victimization. In the results stands out an acute feeling of social insecurity, that extrapolates to dimensions like the health, the work and the institutional protection. This feeling carries to the privatisation of the spaces, change in the ways of life and modification in daily behaviours otrora trivial. Insecurity, with nuances according subjectively mainstreamed the characteristics of the subject and context, it interweaves with the institutional disaffection and the increase in "other" differentiation.
