The aim of this monograph is to reflect on the Japanese contributions that global society has been absorbing since 1960, an important decade in the Japanese context due to its astonishing economic take-off. Since then, the changes that have taken place both in the international context and in Japan itself have been remarkable. Observing these changes and analysing how Japan has contributed to bringing them about, or how its way of dealing with them can be a lesson or model for others, are some of the reasons that have led us to raise this issue to be approached from very different disciplines, such as law, architecture, literature, the plastic arts or ecology, among others.
