Japan's contribution to Global Peace Keeping within the United Nations Organization
Abstract
The United Nations (UN) was born with a clear purpose, to contribute to world peace and security, through the cooperation and collaboration of all the countries that comprise it; thus, Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) were created to ensure peace in conflict zones. Japan joined the UN in 1956, its participation in PKO’s has evolved along with the evolution of the interpretation of Article 9 of its Constitution. In the last 30 years, it has gone from only providing funding to participating in missions at almost the same level of commitment as the rest of the States participating in PKO’s.
