Development and influence of Zen in the West. Analysis of the presence of Zen in the work of Kandinsky and Malevich
Abstract
Historical journey through oriental philosophies such as Zen Buddhism to demonstrate the influence of these in the context of the Bauhaus school. Our intention is making clear the influence they suppose in the creation and development of the school, through the search of similarities between the work of some of its main professors like Kandinsky or Gropius. Also, the school's environment is analyzed through the main representatives of architectural and artistic movements in a search for Buddhism through the analysis of some of his most emblematic works. For this analysis we will use, mainly, on Malévich's work in comparison with the Genko-an Buddhist temple, in order to recognize the main concepts, not only of his work, but also of his philosophy in relation to Suprematism.
