Abstract

After 130 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Mexico and Japan, it is worth exploring the few chronicles that Mexicans made of Japan in the first decades of the 20th century. The information on Japan obtained directly by Mexicans was scarce. The chronicles provided by Jenaro Montiel Olvera and Antonio Lomelí Garduño then a college student are, in some sense, unique. Each one, from his perspective tells, in detail his experiences in Japan, where they could directly observe his rapid process of modernization and his transformation as a military power, through their writings they could offer testimonies in Mexico about Japan.
