Japan and Manila relations during the final phase of the Namban period
Abstract
Based on the data registered in the Accounting of Philippines from the Archivo General de Indias, the evolution of the trade of Japanese products sent to Manila in the latest stages of the namban period is analyzed, pointing out that an important volume of products from Japan still arrived at Manila till 1634. Besides, the analysis of the taxes paid by the Christian Japanese residents in Philippines, the zones where they settled in after 1614 as exiled are revealed, apart from the well known Dilao quarter.
