Abstract

In the face of the diversification of the socializing agents, the peer group and feminine, youth magazines have become the mediators for teenagers. The role of the mass media is to mediate between the social actors and the public: set the interests. Newspapers do it with regards to the public sphere, while feminine magazines refer to private life. This article describes how magazines offer an interpretative frame of the youth’s reality based on the physical image, and the mechanisms by which this mediation (language and images) is exerted. More over, the use given by teenagers to their reading is what confers sense to the text. In this action we discover the mediating power of friends. In the group, magazines are processed, negotiated and given meaning. That is the “mediation of the mediation”.
