The Recognition of Symbolyc Violence and the Relevance of its approach on Social Communication Training
Abstract
Symbolic violence is a form of domination that is exercised against vulnerable communities. This type of violence is reproduced through the different contents that circulate on diverse communication platforms. Identifying these types of violence requires media education which is difficult to achieve in university settings. The purpose of this article is to determine the incidence of training in Social Communication in the identification of symbolic violence by students from Luis Amigó Catholic University, Medellín Campus. This is a qualitative study of exploratory scope, and it was found that training in Social Communication has a secondary incidence in the identification of symbolic violence. It is on support networks that this type of violence is discussed and reflected upon. The feminist training of the students and some teachers is a central variable in the identification of stereotyped and discriminatory narratives.
