The socio-political narrative in television news
Abstract
This article analyzes the communicative treatment granted to socio-political events in Chilean television news. Thematic hierarchization and narrative production is addressed, as well as involved non-professional and professional actors of mediation. Traits, attributes, and roles assigned by the media to non-professional actors are explained, while attitudes, rhetoric, axiological positions, and the approach taken by professional mediators when building the news are also analyzed. At the methodological level, indicators and categories proposed by Manuel Martín Serrano in his analysis of Spanish television news shows are replicated in order to compare results from different geographic and temporal settings.Downloads
