Youth Female Associationism: Participation Mechanisms in Barcelona
Abstract
The main objective of this research is to analyze the work of young female associationism as a mechanism for citizen participation aimed at the integration of marginalized groups into the labor market through integrative education. The research has been developed based on a nine-month voluntary work at the Rosa Peris Association in Barcelona, which provides study grants to young girls in situations of socio-economic vulnerability, aged between 16 and 26 years old. A qualitative content analysis has been conducted on the professional and personal progress of the scholarship recipients, as well as their identity impact. The presentation also provides information on how youth-oriented female associations from the third sector can guide public authorities in designing youth and equality-related public and social policies. The results highlight the practical scope of these civic interventions in shaping public policies, as they succeed in grounding political-administrative production in youth citizen association experiences.
