Abstract

This text concerns to a research that would like to give some light to the process of birth of the monotheism. We left from the idea that, in the space of Israel, any construction of an idea of a unique God, would leave from its cultural base. We think that the analyzes of the functional duplicity of the gods Ilu (that means “god”) and Baal (“sir”), presents in Ugarit, it's an archaeology of what will happens with the names Adonai and Eloim (both used to Yahweh), a clear functional assimilation of the highest gods of the region. With the use of those names, were constructed the possibility of the monotheism.
