Noaidi: The sámi shaman and its wizard function
Abstract
The aim of this article was to review the interpretations offered by contemporary authors about the view of the Sámi shaman in order to deny his wizard or witch role based on the traditional sources. I have divided my dissertation in different sections starting by introducing the role and activities of the noaidi within the Sámi community during the centuries where the written sources come from; the womanshaman, in order to show the multiple contradictions found in the traditional sources; Magical practices: witchcraft and ecstasy; A study of the ecstasy with soul journey and assistant spirits.Downloads
