Abstract

Beginning with the importance of memory in Israel (1) we first deal with the concept of time that makes possible memory (2) and what does memory mean (3), passing afterwards to a look at the verbs of memory, i.e. ways to practice memory: remind, remember, commemorate (4). Historical memory normally recalls heroic deeds, whereas in Israel we find the history of pain to be significantly present (5), consideration that leads to the experience of horror suffered in XX century: Auschwitz, origin of new reasons for memory, even in a sense of order or categorical imperative (6). During all our exposition memory proofed to have a strong theological dimension and also an ethical component, so that in the conclusive part (7) we ask for the relation between both.
