Sed non totus recessit. Legitimidad, Incertidumbre, y cambio político en el De Obitu Theodosii
Abstract
The death of the Emperor Theodosius, shortly after his victory over usurper Eugenius, opened a period of political uncertainty intensified by the youth of the princes, the division inside the army and the political ambitions of the highest members of the Court staff. Ambrose of Milan, who officiated a funeral, composed an unusual funerary speech full of references regarding the deceased emperor, the political instability and the uncertain future. The present article shall try to analyse the political contents and rhetorical devices displayed in that speech.Downloads
