Abstract

The nature of religious Romanisation in the Celtic area of Hispania shows that the penetration of Roman worship in rural areas was based mainly upon the mass presence of Jupiter. The other Roman divinities did not enjoy widespread popularity in these territories. Although Jupiter was venerated in both rural and urban areas, the relative strength of devotion was more intense in the country. This paper analyses different aspects of the worship of the Romans' highest divinity by studying votive inscriptions and the relationship with indigenous Hispanic deities.
