Abstract

This paper offers a general assessment of the Treaty of the River Iber, concluded on the Iberian Peninsula between the Romans and the Carthaginians in 226 BC. It highlights the impact and issues raised by this agreement in both ancient and recent historiographical discourse on the struggle between Carthaginian and Roman domains in the western Mediterranean, also considering the role of third-party actors and scenarios involved, i.e., other agencies and narratives obscured in the literary sources preserved on the episode. In addition, the contents of the contributions that make up the monographic section are presented
