Adoption in Kassite Babylonia
Abstract
The article analyses four cuneiform texts from Babylonia during the Kassite Dynasty that have a close relation with adoption. These documents are dated back between the 14th and 12th centuries BC and are quantitatively scarce. Even so, they shed light on this legal matter, which has its own peculiarities with respect to the previous Old Babylonian tradition. The work thoroughly studies the cuneiform documentation on the subject, treating each text separately. Finally, a contextualization of the corpus is proposed within the ancient Near Eastern adoptions.
