Understanding and exploiting the peoples of the Hispanic Northwest in classical literary tradition
Abstract
The campaigns of Brutus and Caepio brought the Iberian Northwest to the light for Greco-Roman civilization. Previous information relied on colonial knowledge. That very process of appropriation included denomination, based primarily on Roman experience and classical tradition. The way space was defined and territorial organization occurred in parallel. In both of those, Augustus played a role of paramount importance, by creating the new provincial system and providing the basis for Agrippa’s cartography.Downloads
