The wandering motifs of the kingship of the Roman Empire and the construction of Visigothic majesty between imitatio and percolation of the regalia insigna

Abstract

This contribution proposes an analytical methodology that uses the notion of wandering motifs of kingship to study the culture of Visigothic kingship. The basic motifs used to describe the postestas of Roman and Byzantine emperors pass almost unaltered to a foreign culture, namely the Visigothic one. This research deepens understandings of the communication strategies that shape material and non-material culture of local kingship.
