Abstract

This piece explores the funeral of Charles, prince of Viana, held during September and October 1461 in Barcelona; having witnessed his death, the city became the scene of his funerary rites. These ceremonies were illustrative of contemporary European rituals and analysing them allows us to better understand depictions of the power of a crown prince.
