Nubes de langosta africana. Historiographic prejudices about the Berber dynasties (Almoravids, Almohads and Merinids)
Abstract
Traditionally, ideological prejudices have been plaguing the study of al-Andalus, especially in Spanish scholarship. Some of the most commonly-held stereotypes are connected to the paradigm of the Reconquista, which reached a rather hegemonic position in Spain over the Francoist period (1936-1975) and still remains currently highly influential in the field of Medieval Studies. This article seeks to explain how these ideological prejudices affect the study of Almoravids, Almohads and Merinids, the three Berber dynasties which played a key role in al-Andalus across 11-14th centuries
