The explicitness of disjunctive conjunctions in Chinese-Spanish translation of legal texts
Abstract
This work explores the phenomenon of the manifestation of the Spanish disjunctive conjunctions "o" and "u" in Chinese-Spanish translation. It utilizes a parallel corpus of Chinese-Spanish legal texts and a comparable corpus of Spanish legal texts, analyzing possible causes using tools such as AntConc. In conjunction with Zeng's previous studies (2018, 2020), this research demonstrates that in the translation of legal texts, both the Spanish-to-Chinese and the reverse translation processes exhibit explicit features. Meanwhile, quantitative analysis showed that the explicitation of disjunctive conjunctions was influenced by the type of semantic relationship expressed. Qualitative analysis revealed that explicitation was related to two factors: linguistic factors and textual ones.
