The gold slip of Empress Wǔ Zétiān
Abstract
Wǔ Zétiān's Golden Tablet has attracted the attention from Chinese epigraphers since its discovery, and especially of those who study the Tang Dynasty. It is a prayer written in first person intended to be read by a delegate to gods. Because of this document's nature, contents and the support itself, it has brought light on two poorly known aspects on the reign of Wǔ Zétiān since its discovery: the Empress's Taoist beliefs and the use of zhào character.
