On Habermas: a reflection on the connection between the conditions for the validity of speech and the idea of objective justice
Abstract
In 1981 Jürgen Habermas wrote The Theory of Communicative Action. His aim was to provide a global explanative structure of interpersonal communication, regarding three claims for validity of speech: normative rightness, truth and truthfulness. It is through the fulfilment of these three conditions that Habermas considers the possibility of achieving community, solidarity and social integration. The sciences of Information Theory and Information Law do also refer to truth and truthfulness as claims for the validity of the messages brought up by the mass media, although with some differences to Habermas`s proposal. This article is a reflection on the possibilities of projecting Habermas` thesis over the two above mentioned Sciences, searching for the hidden sense of Justice that lays on the work of the German philosopher.
