Health in the Portuguese press: what editorial profile?
Abstract
The editorial line of a newspaper guides both journalists and readers in a writing and reading protocol (Scholes, 1991), and it assures the newspaper’s consistency. We propose to study the editorial line three Portuguese newspapers follow when it comes to health news. In order to do so, we analyze all the health news published between 2008 and the first semester of 2013 in Expresso, Público, and Jornal de Notícias. Health is a transversal issue to all society and the public is more and more interested in it. Therefore, health is also very appealing to the press, and it is important to understand what is being done in this field of expertise.
