Marcos de integridad, calidad institucional y medios de comunicación en España
Abstract
Different empirical studies have demonstrated the extraordinary importance of the variable “good governance” for economic development, happiness, and welfare of society. One of the key elements for achieving “good governance” is institutional quality. Institutional quality is a wide and complex concept; hence this article focuses on it as the capacity for promoting integrity and discouraging corrupt behaviour through formal and informal institutional arrangements. This text analyses the institutional quality of the media in Spain.
The research question is “What is the level of good governance and integrity of the Spanish media?” Good governance implies competence and independence as well as transparency, accountability and ethical climate. As a consequence, this article analyzes different media components. First, it addresses the capacity and independence of the media. Second, it covers the media internal governance system: their transparency, accountability and integrity subsystems (i.e. conflict of interest rules, ethical codes, etc.).
