News aggregators: an approach to the state of the art in ethical considerations of recommendation algorithms.
Abstract
This scientific article examines the situation of news aggregators in the context of the current information and media ecosystem. It analyzes their role in the proliferation of online information, aiming to understand their impact on how users access, consume, and share news in the digital era. Different aspects and technical features of 15 news aggregators are explored, including content personalization, recommendation systems, notification systems, and content curation. Based on these features, through a bibliographic review, the ethical challenges that arise in relation to the collection, selection, presentation, and distribution of news are explored. This analysis also examines their impact on aspects such as reliability, privacy, diversity of information, data security, lack of transparency, and the dissemination of fake news. Furthermore, potential solutions and best practices to address these ethical issues will be discussed.
