Abstract
Images of migration are frequent in the Spanish press due to current news related to these human movements. This research explores the capacity of photography to portray migrants and how is this graphic treatment. It focuses on the study of the photograph taken on May 19, 2021 by Bernat Armangue on the beach of El Tarajal (Ceuta) that shows the embrace between the Spanish Red Cross cooperator, Luna Reyes, and the Senegalese, Abdou. This image had an impact on national and international public opinion and was widely disseminated on social networks. Using an analysis protocol that describes the image at five levels (contextual, compositional, morphological, enunciative and global), this research brings us to the capacity of photojournalism to summarize very complex conflicts thus mobilizing public opinion.
