Between photography and printing press. In the footsteps of Amalia López Cabrera and her photographic cabinet
Abstract
Born in Almería and married to a well-known Jaen printer, Amalia López Cabrera opened her own photographic study around 1860 on Obispo Arquellada street, where she worked until her transfer to Madrid in 1868, losing her trail. Based on various documentary sources, this work aims to recover new information that allows reconstructing the personal and professional itinerary of the author. The main results are unpublished data on the biography of Amalia López, her children and her professional activity.A new facet is discovered as a collaborator in the printing press of her husband, Francisco López Vizcaíno in Jaén and Madrid, where they would continue the business. Likewise, the list of titles printed in the typographic establishment in both cities is provided. Finally, the place and date of her death are revealed, information until now unknown.
