General guidelines for managing photographic archives: alternative proposal for Mexico
Abstract
The work describes the global environment of photography, making particular reference to the photographic image as a document. It indicates its importance, uses and applications in society and mentions aspects related to the basic operations of the document chain: a) acquisition of documents, b) documentary analysis, c) description of photographs, d) storage, and e) conservation and dissemination of documents. As a fundamental part of the content, it recognizes the existence of works that precede the tasks of document management of photographs, developed by: Caicedo Santacruz (1995), Valle Gastaminza (1999), Robledano Arillo (2002) and Sánchez Vigil (2006). Their proposals are considered a key piece for the development of general guidelines for the management of photographic archives, as an alternative proposal according to the context of the current scenario in Mexico. As part of this proposal, the use of international norms and standards stands out: ISAD-G for the documentary description; the Dublin Core metadata group for systematization, as well as the DSpace technological platform for the storage, publication, dissemination and preservation of digital resources. In addition, a series of final considerations are shared as a conclusion and the list of sources consulted to deepen on these topics is recorded.
