Documentary resources in university radios in Spain: Use and relations on intellectual property
Abstract
This article presents the results of an investigation to determine if university stations belonging to the Spanish University Radio Association (ARU) use sound and documentary resources submitted to intellectual property, deposited on the Internet or in their sound archives. In addition, this investigation is related to the relationship with the copyright management companies and the use of the exceptions established by the regulations in force in Spain, in relation to the right of appointment and other exceptions for the use of public documents, as contents of your schedule. As an investigation technique, an open questionnaire was applied that could be completed online and by telephone. The field work was carried out in the months of October and November 2019. The results reveal the importance of the use of the right of appointment, the existence of repository of programs of university stations on the web and, in general, the existence of agreements with rights management companies or failing that the use of documents and sound resources not subject to restriction of use rights. In relation to the use of musical works, more than fifty-two percent of the stations analyzed declare that they use both commercial music and music in Creative Commons format. Finally, it is detected that the distribution of its programming contents in hosting platforms and repositories, as well as its promotion in social networks and its reuse to give them value, is a common practice in these stations.
