Radio, memory and digital
Abstract
This contribution reflects on the state of the art of the digitisation processes of radio archives, looking at the various forms of digitisation of radio archives existing in Europe. We analyse the Dutch, Spanish and British models, the cases of informal archives and finally we pay particular attention to the Italian case, where in 2010 Rai inaugurated a webradio dedicated to the restoration, digitization and streaming of material from its historical archives. Rai's case represents a unique initiative on the European scene and a model of openness to the public that could also be replicated by other public service media companies.
