Historical perspective and future vision of the archives of public service radio in Mexico
Abstract
The article offers a historical review and a future perspective of public radio sound archives in Mexico, as result of qualitative research based on case studies and analysis of documentation from public service broadcasters. It establishes the typology of public radio and identifies some of the most outstanding public service radio archives with the aim of present some of the most important radio collections with documentary value. It also presents preservation initiatives that have been undertaken by public service radio stations. It provides an overview of the state of preservation of public service radio collections in Mexico and the situation of vulnerability of this heritage.
