Documentation of the censorship in advertising during the Spanish Civil War. Content analysis applied to "ABC of Seville"
Abstract
In spite of the academic interest awakened by the Spanish Civil War, studies concerning the advertising produced in this period are scarce. Furthermore, none of them have delved into the censorship to which the sector was subjected to when representing female figures. Thus, with this paper we intend to prove the existence of such censorship by means of a thorough documentary analysis. At the same time, through a content analysis, we have studied its evolution on the ABC of Seville –the newspaper with the most coverage of the nationalist faction. Finally, both analyses have been combined to indicate the possible causes of the fluctuations observed in female nudes throughout the conflict.Downloads
