Integration of the combined methodology in the field of Social Sciences and Social Work. An example of practical use in research
Abstract
Social work research is restricted to the social sciences and their methodology. Developing rigorous and high-quality knowledge involves the use of quantitative and qualitative methods. The mixed-methods approach has undeniably contributed to the understanding and knowledge of social phenomena, and its development and implementation is booming.
This article presents a study carried out with mixed-methods methodology in a field of social work involving people with dementia who are cared for at home by cohabiting family members. The psychosocial adaptation and quality of life of family carers is analysed using a mixed-methods data analysis. The results show how a mixed-methods approach makes it possible to delve into the causes and elements that affect care, explain the experiences of the people interviewed and lay the foundations for a recently implemented intervention project. The use of this methodological practice in the field of social work research is hence examined in detail.
