Social services perspectives on the situations of minors at social risk
Abstract
This paper examines the main factors that determine the intervention of Social Work professionals in the detection of minors at risk. From a qualitative approach, 40 cases referred to the Community Social Services of Eastern Andalusia, identified in different contexts (Education System, Health System, Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, etc.), are analysed.
The results show that the main risk factors concerning the minor and the family have as a common denominator the conflict in the parental-filial relationships with traumatic separations not resolved in a positive way and different disorders that have repercussions on the mental health of the minors.
The social reports reflect the need to proceed to referral to prevention and/or treatment programmes that encourage children and adolescents in the acquisition of socio-personal skills that provide their conciliation and satisfaction in various areas of their environment. Likewise, parents and/or guardians must acquire and/or progress in their skills and abilities that favour the effective development of parenthood, in turn promoting the growth, confidence and security of all the components of the family unit.
