Luis XIV ante la sucesión de la Monarquía Española: Los Presupuestos de la Embajada de Amelot
Abstract
The action of Amelot in Spain (1705-1709) marked the maximum point of Luis XIV’s influence on his grandson’s government. The ambassador’s intervention on the Nueva Planta marks a constrast with the displeasure aroused in the nobility, that is usually attributed to the reflection of his basic resistance to all reform. This attitude, however, was preceded by Luis XIV impulse to weaken the political position of the Grandes, and to take them off the government of his monarchy, and thus to have a bigger margin to manoeuvre in his negotiations with the enemy states, at the sake of the Spanish interests.Downloads
