The forgue of the Bourbon para-official livestoch project: Philipe V and the "alcalde mayor entregador"
Abstract
From the start the king Felipe V was imbued with antipathy and hostility towards the Cabaña Real, supporting its suppression as a necessity. He did not consider the fusion of transhumance and the Mesta, opting for the opposite economic and agrarian changes based on the universal suffering and poverty caused to the population and the Kingdom. The battering ram chosen to demolish the institution was the alcalde entregador, warrantor of the privileges. From the Crown, he concentrated on favoring and implementing a new method of election; subtracting its jurisdiction over the transhumant cattle; limiting its actions to the maximum so that it did not get to solve the problems; removing thousands of cañadas; fostering reforms supporting the farming and the estante and riberiega breeding; promoting disobedience to the dictates of the Mesta judges; manipulating the commissions or the instruction processes, therefore minimizing their effectiveness. The foundations for the Bourbon anti-Mesta Project were laid.
