The royal privileges of the Order of Merced in Castile (1289-1500) and the Order of Santiago
Abstract
During the Low Middle Ages the Order of Merced received a series of privileges from the Castilian monarchs, in order to facilitate their labor of rescuing captive from the land of Moors. Although they have been already edited in diverse occasions during the modern centuries, it is well worth to publish these privileges again, due to the historiographic oblivion fallen upon them. In order to accomplish this task, a copy is used, extracted from a trial in which the Mercedarians were fighting to get the pious foundations destined to the redemption of captive in lands assigned to the Order of Santiago.Downloads
