The contribution of Castro Urdiales to the Spanish Armada (1586-1618)
Abstract
For almost 30 years the heirs of Castro Urdiales neighbors who had participated in the 1588 England Journey, or even the survivors themselves, were claiming to the Crown the payment of their wages as sailors, gunners and pilots. The adventures of Castreños on that sad occasion were recorded in the wills granted by stakeholders, and so it is possible to reconstruct the participation of the Cantabrian town in this and other armies at the time.Downloads
