Abstract

The article develops the current approaches that analyze the relationship between technology and the labor market - the Skill Biased Technical Change (SBTC) approach and the Routine Biased Technical Change (RBTC) approach- showing that both only observe part of the process they claim to study. Then three criticisms are presented about its omissions: the lack of consideration for the variable capital replacement equation, the short and medium run effects of the automation process and the global unity of capitalism. On these bases, the connections between the two are shown and we present a way to fully evaluate the process automation and digitalization, particularly to think about the prospects for Latin America.
