Paradigm of the commons and public social protection as keys to welfare
Abstract
This article is focused on the contributions that the paradigm of the commons can offer to the management and formulation of public social protection in Spain. The theoretical evolution of the “commons” framework since the 1970s is examined and special emphasis is placed on how it has been articulated from the context of the economic and employment crisis following the citizen movements in Spain. It is argued that this political organization framework advocated by “the commons” can contribute to reconfiguring the public welfare model by incorporating citizen participation and assuming the challenges of facing the sustainability of life.
