Abstract

.- The aim of this paper is to analyse the interaction and interchange relationships that took place in the southern Andean highland in the Chicha period, through the trade of psychoactive plants, such as Anadenan thera colubrina and Nicotiana tabacum. The areas covered by this study are northern Chili, northwest Argentina and southern Bolivia. The interchange links between the groups in those areas allowed them to make use of a number of new goods, otherwise inaccessible. The possible trade ways are also inferred, after the analysis of the psychotropic plants distribution and of the archaeological paraphernalia connected to their consumption.
